Help Save Our Upland Water Voles

Our second collaboration with the Initiative for Nature Conservation Cymru is a wonderfully evocative story highlighting the protection of endangered water voles in Wales. Fully animated and rendered in Blender by the Cloth Cat team, the short film shows how a water vole faces challenges on its way to find a new wetlands home.

We’re thrilled to share that the project was featured this month by the Welsh online news service, Nation.Cymru! We’re delighted that they took an interest in our exciting short film. We'd like to show our gratitude to Nation.Cymru for featuring the project. Click here to read the full article!

“We’re really proud of this film and put a large amount of energy into it. For us, it was an opportunity to tell a heart-warming story about the natural landscape of Wales and the animals that live here.”

Jon Rennie | Managing Director of Cloth Cat
"Water Voles are thought to have declined by over 90% in recent years due to a combination of habitat loss and predation by non-native American Mink (Neovison vison) and are now classed as ‘endangered’ in the UK. "

Initiative for Nature Conservation Cymru
"The charity’s findings have already shown that the uplands of the Rhondda and Neath Port Talbot can now be recognised as one of the most significant regions for water voles in Wales."

Stephen Price | Nation.Cymru

The final film is a team triumph, and we’re grateful to Rob and the INCC for the opportunity to help save a population of this rare species, whose ecology is still little understood. More information about the creative process behind our short film is available here. To find out more about the conservation project or to donate to the cause, please follow the link below!

The 2025 Children’s Media Conference, held July 8–10 in Sheffield was a vibrant, inspiring celebration of creativity, diversity, and future-focused innovation in kids’ content. Frank Cottrell‑Boyce, Waterstones Children’s Laureate, opened the conference with a stirring keynote full of clear‑sighted humanity and bold ideas, calling on the children’s media community to rise to today’s challenges and “shake off the blues” for the sake of young audiences.

With animation, publishing, gaming, toys, apps, and education all represented, CMC 2025 offered a rare cross-industry platform, especially powerful for educational content creators and animators. From thought-provoking keynotes and actionable panels, to meaningful initiatives and energized networking, the mood was clear; the children’s media world isn’t just adapting - it’s stepping in, shaking things up, and delivering the engaging, equitable, and imaginative content that kids deserve.
