Planted!
Cloth Cat Games are super excited to present the announcement trailer for their brand new head-to-head horticultural combat game, where gardens are arenas and 1-4 players battle for resources to sow, grow and throw™ as much produce as they can at goals (and each other)!
Part harvest sim, part sports game, and 100% cultivated chaos, Planted! challenges players to take on their friends in arena combat where they will need to strategically plan their produce production for success. Will they utilise fertiliser to grow colossal crops for more points, will they steal their opponents offerings, or will they use power-ups to propel themselves to victory? Only thyme will tell. Jump in to multiplayer (online or offline!) chaos with friends all whilst reeking havoc across eight diverse biomes. Multiplayer not for you? Then put your green thumbs to the test and take on the hand crafted single-player story campaign and enter the world of competitive gardening! Who knew there were so many ways to garden?! We'd like to say a huge thank you to our publishing partners Curveball for their ongoing support as we continue the development journey, and also to Creative Wales for the scale-up support igniting our growth to this point. Planted! will be available on PC, PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch later this year. Click here to wishlist Planted! on Steam.
Howie
Howie is a young hippo finding his way in his new city. He’s been adopted by Hilda and now he wants to share the happiness he’s found with all of his new friends! This collection of Howie shorts consists of 20 x 1 minute, comedy episodes aimed at children aged 3-5. The series was developed and produced by Jon Rennie and animated in Moho at Cloth Cat. Howie was originally conceived of and created by the talented Michelle Robinson(The Goodnight Series) and the marvellously imaginative Fred Blunt(Captain Falsebeard). The scripts for Howie were crafted by the award winning writer/show creator Dave Ingham(Dave Spud, Shaun the Sheep). The music for Howie was composed and produced by Emmy award-winning composer Brollyman. The project was commissioned by S4C and supported by Creative Wales. To learn more, click here to visit the Howie project page on our website. Howie is currently available to watch on the Cloth Cat YouTube Channel. Cardiff Animation Festival’s Industry Day was such a success! Jon presented his case study, From Script to Screen in Moho, sharing with us a behind-the-scenes look at the making of The Ghost of Midwinter using Moho Animation Software. It was fantastic to see such a vibrant mix of creators, studios, students, graduates, and industry voices come together in Chapter. The day’s programme offered rich insight, from evolving digital-first strategies to feature development, crossover opportunities with the games industry and valuable guidance for freelancers! Thank you Cardiff Animation Festival for such a rewarding Industry Day! We’re excited to see where these conversations lead next!
Cardiff Animation Festival
We hope that everyone had a fantastic time at this year’s Cardiff Animation Festival! After a full four days of super fun ideas, thoughtful storytelling and seriously impressive craft, we’re feeling totally inspired.
It’s always a pleasure to step out of the studio and connect with people who are as passionate about animation as we are! We had some really positive, insightful conversations and got the chance to engage with so much exciting new talent.
We’d like to give a huge round of applause to the CAF Team for making this year’s festival the best one yet! And, although the in-person part of the festival has come to an end, there's still so much more to see online! Check out the #CAF26 Online Programme to find out more.
Storyboarding: A Professional Toolkit
Benedict Tomczyk-Bowen will be back to teach his Storyboarding: A Professional Toolkit course again in September! This one week course will start off by deconstructing story and the differences between boards for different media. We’ll then build up production-ready knowledge in order to understand the array of responsibilities a storyboard artist can face and the tools that we use. We’ll be taking a look at the primary software the industry uses; Toon Boom Storyboard Pro. By the end of the course you should come out with a better knowledge of how to deconstruct scripts and be able to create a board that’ll put a smile on any director, or more importantly, any animator’s face! Benedict Tomczyk-Bowen has almost a quarter of a century’s experience in the animation industry, primarily as a storyboarder in TV Animation, but also with forays into the Film and Advertising spaces. Having worked with most of the major animation studios, Benedict has contributed to shows globally and has also developed his own work for Nickelodeon. So, if you are looking to level up your storyboarding skills and expertise, apply now to join us in September. Be sure to also check out the support section on the Cloth Cat Academy website to learn more about the Professional Development Funding opportunities that you may be eligible for!
